Wow, how did the year go by so fast?
From our opening camp based on the B.C. Tidy Camper challenge to our upcoming District Camp, the Camp O'Winners (based on the Canada Summer Games and planned by our Rangers!) it's been a rush!
18 energetic and curious young ladies made up our Unit this year. Nine of them are flying up to Guides.
What will next year bring?

Circle Sixes
Circles, or Sixes as they used to be called, are an important part of Brownies.
First, it provides us Leaders with a nice way to organize the Brownies. We break them into small groups and now we have ready made groups of kids who know each other. It offers them an identity as well. They aren't just a Brownie, they are a Pixie, an Elf or a Sprite.
It provides the older girls a level of additional responsibility and a leadership role as well. In our Unit, my Sixers and Seconders (the "leader" and her back up) are responsible for checking to see who attended that days meeting, handing out any worksheets or information we have for the girls, and collecting anything we need collected.
Each Six (because traditionally, you put six Brownies in each group) has a song they sing. These songs provide us with a ready made opening. The girls gather in their assigned parts of the room at the beginning of the meeting and their Sixer or Seconder checks them in. After that, when we call them to order, the girls line up and as we call their group, they skip around the toadstool and form a circle.
After all the different "magical little people" are in the circle, we sing our Brownie song together and say our Promise, Law and Motto! It's a great and traditional way to start our meeting.
Until next time!

Brownie Badges
It's the beginning of our year, and often we are asked by parents what to do with all the Brownie Badges we earn.

Art in the Community: Working on the Key to the Arts!
At the end of the last meeting I spoke to some of you and passed along the following message: in your travels over the next couple of weeks, if you see some interesting Art in the community, please get out that phone and take a photo of your Brownie with the Art!
This could be an interesting snowman, a sculpture for Festival du Voyageur, one of the Bears (formerly of Broadway Fame), or even some neat graffiti.

Once you've take said photo, you can email it to our 99th Brownies gmail address. I'll put them all in a presentation to be shown at our meeting on the TV.
Next week our meeting kicks off a Month of exploring our Four World Centers (there are actually five now! But we're doing the Original Four). We start is Mexico at Our Cabana. Coming up is also Valentines Day (we'll be "visiting" Switzerland, land of Milk Chocolate!) India and England are also on the agenda.
See you next week!

Our First Meeting
is tonight.
We will be welcoming our new Brownies and following a Welcome to Brownies meeting by Guiding with Jewel.
We are going to learn a few songs, play a game (Evolution) and make a couple of crafts. The first craft is a key themed name tag. The second is a "promise squirrel." He will have the Brownie Promise on acorns. (paper nuts only!)
Looking forward to the new Guiding Year and meeting the girls tonight!
